Would the below situation weird out a new employer?

So I just got a new job at the corporate headquarters of a fairly large size corporation and for the past week I have been sitting with a few different people that have been training me. It is a lot of training and I cant always write down the pertinent information so i was thinking about buying a digital recorder (about 50 bucks) and recording everything the trainer says. I would ask their permission beforehand to record them but does anyone think that would weird them out (even me just asking) to record them while they are training me? I don’t want to be the known as the weird new guy that tapes all conversations…
