Neodymium magnet slammed onto Laptop?
Hi, I have this 1inch cube Neodymium magnet that has a pull force of about 100lbs. I only have one of them so I assume that the pull force will be much weaker on other objects.
Now when my mom was using the laptop she placed the laptop under the bed as usual( to allow for more space for an additional mattress). Without knowing I had my magnet down there, there was a loud bang on the laptop and then it suddenly blacks out. My mom isn’t kind of alert so she just left it and stowed it down there.
The next morning when I woke up, found the magnet stuck under the laptop, about slightly left from the center of it. Immediately I realized something must have happened and when I turned it on, it boots perfectly but now has a loud humming/buzzing sound when in operation. Is there a way to fix it?
IN SUMMARY: My Neodymium magnet slammed onto the laptop from under, the lap still boots fine but has a humming/buzzing sound when turned on. I still have yet to check for any functionality issues. I understand that powerful magnets can screw hard drives. How can I fix the noise? Thanks!
The CD drive is empty.
I would appreciate if anyone can tell me a few ways to check for any damages to the laptop.
*Bah, screw the magnet, I knew something bad would happen :/ *
-The laptop now shuts down without warning with a soft cluck(same sound when I hold the power button to force shut down)
-The laptop fails to start up, blacks out after showing ‘windows failed to start’/
-The laptop is only about 6 months old, Vaio

Once We Shed Ourselves of Our Petroleum Addiction All Will Be Well In The World!?
I know this is true, but I just got this thing and it says:
What is neodymium? You should know. It’s only the necessary rare earth element that is essential to green technologies such as, electric motors and wind turbines. It is also used for hard drives and smart phones and flat screen tvs. And we are running out of it.
There is plenty in the ground. But mining has been shut down because of environmental concerns. (Naturally.)
China is in control of 97% of the world’s supply, and they do not want to share with the west.
So, dare I say, as soon as we rid ourselves of our neodymium addiction all will be well in the world!

I thought I was afraid yesterday because of Japan, now it looks like we will not be able to go green. Does anyone know about this? Is it true?

I want to build a homemade alternator?
I have a one inch by one inch neodymium magnet that I would like to use to create electricity. I know how that works but does anybody have any good ideas through experience on the best way to get my magnet to spin inside a coil of copper wire? Something simple that I can crank, but it not fall apart.

neodymium magnets. Powerful. 10 pts. points?
I recently bought 1 neodymuim magnet. Its power is N42 and can hold up to 85 pounds. This magnet is 2 inches in diameter and 1 in height. I just wanted to know if it is safe to carry in school?
MAGNET N52 Neodymium?

MAGNET N52 Neodymium?
How do.
I am a complete beginner when it comes to neodymium magnets apart from that they are very strong. I have a N52 magnet 70mm width 20mm thick and unfortunatly i took a bit out of the magnet. It never broke into 2 pieces but it did take a bit out of the side
Just wondering if this will affect the power of the Magnet and if it does is it a significant amount?
thanks.
